Yesterday was the award ceremony and inauguration of the SIGNÚ International Competition of Illustration for Students 2019 organized by the Universidad UTE in collaboration with the Alianza Francesa.
Nearly 600 works were received from 40 universities from 16 countries (China, Poland, Ecuador, Denmark, Colombia, France, Iran, Mexico and many more) of which 80 were selected for the exhibition in the beautiful Gallery of Art in the Alianza Francesa Quito, Ecuador.
It was a huge pleasure to be the director of this event which was a long process of roughly 10 months. This project could not have been made possible without the help and support of many people; firstly I would like to thank the wonderful team of teachers from the career of Graphic Design, the Department of Communication (a special mention to Maria Sol Meneses who believed in our vision from the very start), all the universities and colleges who participated, to all the team of the Alianza Francesa (a special mention to Charles Vix who opened the doors to your amazing building, and finally thank you to Esteban Vallejo the Director of the career of Graphic Design for trusting in my crazy idea and for being by my side throughout all the process.

Very proud to finally announce that my student Ariel Guevara (who studies Graphic Design at the Universidad UTE) has been selected in the prestigious Golden Bee 13 Moscow Global Biennale of Graphic Design in Russia.
The Golden Bee is considered to be one of the best biennales of graphic design in the world so it is very hard to describe in words how proud I am of my student. Ariel’s work will be exhibited in Moscow started next week and then it will begin a world tour in various countries around the world.
A special mention to Martín Pastor for making a wonderful interview for the Universidad UTE of which you can read the full featurehere.
During the month of December 2017 I received the great news that my student Pablo Machado (UTE Diseño Gráfico) was selected for the 2017 edition of the international social poster project Poster For Tomorrow
Myself and the university are very proud of you Pablo.
From the beginning of the year I have been working extremely hard with the student Alex Cherres of whom I had the great pleasure to be the director of his thesis and final project at the UTE Diseño Gráfico Publicitario. This was my first time as a director of such a project and to be honest I did feel nervous (I am only human) but confident that with a hard work ethic we could achieve good results.
And so during the last week of November we had his final defence in front of his beautiful family and friends. It is with great pleasure to announce that Alex was simply amazing and he achieved a perfect 10/10 for a wonderful presentation and project.
A huge thanks to the evaluators Ivonne Jara and Renato Barros for all your help and advice during this time. Of course a special mention to the coordinator Santiago Pazmiño for your knowledge and guidance.
Finally to you Alex: It is hard to express in words of how so very proud of you I am. I pushed you and I pushing you and I hope you now understand the reason why. You have created a special project and I am sure if you keep this mentality and attitude that you will be a huge success in future. I put my heart and soul into helping you and you returned the favour and for that I am truly grateful.
Last week I received the wonderful news that my student Francisco Giler (who studied at the UTE Diseño Gráfico Publicitario) has made the semifinalists for the Adobe Design Achievement Awards 2017. The ADAA is considered one of the most important design competitions in the world for students, so it is amazing to think that my student Francisco is amongst the most talented students worldwide.
A huge congratulations to Francisco for this great achievement. I am very proud of you.
I am proud to announce that 4 of my students (Ricky Acosta, Sebastian Araujo, Jonathan Guillén and Jonathan Cevallos) from the career of Diseño Gráfico Publicitario at the Universidad Tecnológica Equinoccial in Quito, Ecuador have been selected for the Sin Barreras International Poster Competition in Venezuela.
The competition is organised by the international social organisation Un Mundo Sin Mordaza that promotes Human Rights, freedom and justice through creativity and art in all its manifestations: humor, poetry, music, among others.
Congratulations to my students for representing our career, the university and also humanity.
